April 30th, 2012
Approximately eighty yearbook students and advisers from all over Northern VA, Montgomery County, MD and as far south as Prince George County, VA all gathered at George Mason HS (Falls Church, VA) to get a jump start on their 2012-2013 yearbooks.
Two of the yearbook industry’s brightest creative talents, Bobby Hawthorne and Shannon Williams were on hand to fire up the staffers and inspire them on how to merge two disciplines of yearbooks: verbal and visual connection. Bobby engaged the audience with storytelling and how to obtain and write stories that evoke an emotional response with readers. Shannon entertained the crowd through his enthusiastic and energetic approach to creating impactful visual designs. Together the two motivated attendees to dig deeper into their passion for journalism excellence.
Jason Baranowski and Jen Massey local area, representatives for Jostens, sponsored the event. Materials from the workshop are available for download below. Please feel free to post any comments on how the event inspired you or your staff and any steps being taken to ‘elevate’ next year’s book. Thanks!
Shannon,
I really enjoyed your presentation yesterday and am looking forward to getting a head start for next year with some of the inspirations you presented yesterday!
Thanks so much!
