On February 20, 2014, Mary Kay Downes, long-time award winning yearbook adviser at Chantilly High School, was recognized by several representatives from the Jostens of NoVa team for earning the school’s fourth Colonel Charles E. Savedge Award. To earn this high honor, publications must receive a Trophy Class rating from the Virginia High School League (VHSL) five times within a seven year span.
Odyssey’s fourth Savedge Award proves the program to be a journalistically sound mainstay for over 25 years in Fairfax County, with Mary Kay leading the way. The award was earned in 1998, 2003, 2008 and 2013.
Well known in the industry for her leadership, Mark Kay Downes stays connected with former yearbook staff members all over the country who’ve participated in her program. After graduating, many reflect and appreciate all they learned and accomplished through their experience on “Odyssey” staff.
Jostens is the exclusive recognition partner with the VHSL and awards championship rings to publications advisers, coaches and other activity advisers who earn state championship honors.
